School Sports Day

Check out these photos from our school sports day.

East Walking School Bus

This year, Papatoetoe East School has a 'walking school bus', so that children can walk safely to school. The school bus is in action on a Thursday morning.
Here are some photos . . . .

Kittens don't need a bath!

Kittens don't need a bath. They can clean themselves and clean each other!

Eating again

Details

Our kittens were born in Botany, on the 1st of September (so this is their birthday). They are sisters, and were part of a litter of three kittens. They are now ten weeks old. You may think that our tabby kittens look the same, but one is actually a little smaller than the other, and a little more timid as well.

Miss Capstick took them to the vet yesterday so that they could have some injections and medicine to make sure they are healthy.

The rumours are true - we have kittens!!!

The new school kittens are getting to know their new home, in Mrs Compston's office.
Their favourite toy this morning is a little plastic ball. Do you think one kitten is trying to be the boss?

The kittens are hungry after all their playing. They have a bowl for dry kitten biscuits as well a bowl for fresh water.

Is it a school or a zoo?!?!?!

Mrs Compston's office is the home for two new additions to the Papatoetoe East pet collection.
Can you spot the new pets?

First there was PEANUT the rabbit.

Then came STU the rabbit, followed by CHESTER the guinea pig.
Next we met PEPPER the guinea pig.

And now we have two gorgeous kittens who are finding their way around their new home and quietly getting to know us all. Watch this space for more details.

School Council meets Leigh from Animates pet shop

Today our leaders met with Leigh from "Animates" - the new pet shop at the Supercentre in Manukau. She works there and knows lots about cats. The leaders asked her questions about how to look after our school cats. Leigh gave us some cool cat presents!! Two collars with gold tags, a ten dollar voucher to spend at the shop, and some cat toys.

Hundertwasser

It's a celebration of art all over the school, as everyone learns about the amazing work of Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. In nearly every classroom you'll see bright splashes of colour, spirals, curly-curvy lines, rainbow colours and rainbow buildings. Have a look around. The Papatoetoe Schools Art Show is coming up in Week 8 of this Term and your artwork could be chosen to be displayed at the show.
Cool Hundertwasser stuff to think about . . .
Next time you walk to the dairy, or to school, walk in a curvy line like Hundertwasser did.
When it's been raining and the sun comes out, check out the colours of grass, flowers, trees . . . everything! Hundertwasser loved how the sun shone through raindrops and made all the colours more brilliant.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to see a Hundertwasser slideshow.

School cats

There is a rumour going around that we are getting cats!!! A little bird may have mentioned that the School Leaders visited the SPCA last week to check out puddy dats. Ask Mrs Compston about it - we're sure she knows more than she's letting on!!

Name the scarecrow

Can you think of a cool name for the scarecrow that has mysteriously appeared in the library! You can post your idea in the competition boxes on the library desk.

A cleaning party?!

Loads of kids entered the competition to write a story about our unusual guests above the library doors! Many children and teachers reported hearing strange music at odd times during the day. A saxaphone perhaps, and a ukelele . . . . Adding this strange occurence to the appearance of animals and cleaning equipment in the library, some children came to believe that there was a secret cleaning party going on when nobody was around. What do you think was happening . . . ?
Check out children's stories in the library and look on Oliver to find the winners of the competition.

Should whaling be banned?

A group of Year 5 students have been working on an INQUIRY investigation about whaling. Many countries around the world are trying hard to protect whales from becoming extinct, but some countries continue hunting whales for their meat. Japan is one of those countries.

Come into the library and read the "WONDER WALL" to find out more about whaling. Decide if you think whaling should be banned. What's your opinion???
