Park Guell

Gaudi designed this fantastic park for all the people of Barcelona to enjoy. He was able to blend his ideas and designs with nature.

Sagrada Familia - Barcelona

Famous architect 'GAUDI' designed this breathtaking church called Sagrada Familia. He died before the church was finished, but luckily he made a big model that others could use to finish the church. The Sagrada Familia is a mixture of gothic and Art Nouveau styles. Gaudi used lots of ideas from nature in his designs. He wasn't afraid to try new ideas.
I think it is the most beautiful church that I have ever seen. Inside it is so peaceful and spiritual - it really takes your breath away.

Casa Batlló - Barcelona

This cool house called Casa Batlló was decorated by Antoni Gaudí in the years 1904–1906. He is a famous architect in Barcelona.
It seems that the goal of Gaudi was to avoid straight lines completely - like Hundertwasser. Much of the outside is decorated with mosaics made of broken ceramic tiles. Inside is amazing and full of surprises!
Gaudi is my new favourite designer.

Amalfi Coast Lemons

The Amalfi Coast is famous for growing lemons. As you drive around the mountains, you can see terraces on the side of the mountains where the lemon trees grow. The lemons are huge, juicy and much sweeter than ours.
Many things are made with lemons but the most famous is a drink called 'Limoncello'.

Positano school

Today we were having breakfast on our balcony and we looked across to the other side of Positano and saw a bus let off loads of kids. They all ran down a steep pathway to what must be their school. The school is the buildings with the spotty bits on the windows - they are flower pictures.
Imagine your school being on the side of a mountain!

Grotto Azzurra

The most amazing thing to see in Capri is the Blue Grotto, a huge cave with intense blue water and a magical silvery light. You have to hire a row boat to visit the cave.

Positano

This is the view of Positano from down at the beach. You can see that the whole town is built on the side of a really steep mountain. Walking around Positano is very good for fitness!

Isle of Capri

We took the Positano jet boat to the island of Capri off the coast of Naples. Capri is a famous resort island which has loads of fancy shops and restaurants. It is very beautiful.
To get to the top of the mountains you can walk for days (!!) or take the 'funicular' - cable car. Guess what we chose?
There were lots of groups of school children visiting Capri from France and Italy.

Amalfi

Wow, Amalfi is another beautiful town built into the mountainside. It's pretty scary driving there on the bus as the roads are so narrow and really high! Great shopping and yummy pizza. We found a primary school which is inside a tall building with no outside play area. Quite different from our school.

Amalfi Coast

Here is a map of the Amalfi Coast. We flew to Naples, got a bus to Sorrento, then another bus to Positano. While we are here in Positano, we will visit Amalfi, the island of Capri and the ruins of Pompeii.

Positano, Italy

We have travelled on a plane to Italy and are staying in a beautiful little town called Positano. All the houses here are built into the side of the steep mountain. Our hotel is called the Villa Rosa. The lady in the picture is my sister Justine. There are so many steps inside and outside Villa Rosa. We counted 140 steps to get to our room from the road!! From our balcony, we can see this view of all the houses on the mountainside.

The Monument

This monument was built to remember the great fire of London.
The fire began in a baker's house in Pudding Lane on Sunday 2nd September 1666. It was finally put out on Wednesday 5th September, after destroying about 80% of the City.

Beefeaters

These guards are known as 'Beefeaters'. They guard the Queen at Buckingham Palace, and they have to stand very still. It is most likely that they got their name from the old days when they were paid with beef instead of money.
