Daffodil Day

A daffodil is a type of flower that grows in spring in New Zealand. You can buy a fake daffodil from shops to put on your shirt. A daffodil day is held to raise money to support people who are suffering from cancer. The cancer society collects money and uses it to help children and adults who are sick.

Margaret Mahy

Margaret Mahy died at the age 76 and she had a type of illness thats how she died. Margaret Mahy won in the childrens book awards. It was very sad to hear on the news at Papatoetoe School Library that she had died. She wasn't really good at cooking, but she made yum sandwiches and Margaret Mahy also loved salads. She was born in Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty in New Zealander.

Interviewing Miss Graham

Miss Graham is a new teacher at our school. She teaches the kids in B1. Miss Graham said that everybody here is very lovely and the learning here is lots of fun. She loves viewing the blogs. She likes making learning fun and helping people learn.Her favourite subject is Art.She has taught in a school before, it's called Clayton Park in Manurewa. Her hobbies outside school are reading, painting, gardening and sewing.

RIO OLYMPICS 2016

The city of Rio De Janerio has been elected to host XXXI Summer olympic games in 2016 in about 4 years from now. The other candidate cities were Doha,Chicago, Prague and Tokyo. So as London 2012 ends a new Olympics will begin. So see you in Rio 2016.

Mt Tongariro

Mt Tongarariro in NZ erupted last night! This is the first time in 100 years. Roads around the mountain are closed and planes are delayed because of the falling ash. Scientists do not know what will happen next!!! Luckily, it was a small eruption and no-one was hurt.

Raksha Bandhan - Indian Festival

Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi Purnima is a Hindu and Sikh festival that celebrates the relationship between a brother and sister or a cousin. Hindus celebrate Raksha Bandhan like this; the sister ties a rakhi or Holy thread on the brother's wrist that symbolizes the love of a sister and the well-being of a brother.

Raksha Bandhan was celebrated by Lord Yama and his sister Lord Yamuna. Once upon a time Lord Yamuna tied a rakhi to Lord Yama and bestowed immortality. Yama was so moved by the tranquility of the occasion that he declared that whovever gets a rakhi tied from his sister and promised her protection, will be immortal. This celebration was celebrated by many Hindus and Sikhs in India and Nepal but nowadays, all the Indian brothers and sisters all around the world are celebrating it.
