This term all of the senior school and the year threes will be going in and out of the school to go for swimming lessons. These swimming lessons are completely free, usually its quite expensive so missing an opportunity like this would be devastating. Not only that but New Zealand is surrounded by water so it's important that you learn how to swim!

Human dominoes!
Have you ever wondered if there was such thing as the human dominoes? Well more than 1,000 workers have set a new world record for the "largest human mattress dominoes". It was completed in the USA on the 11th of April. People held on to mattress, lined up then got pushed. It took roughly about 650 square metres of space to make this domino tumble and it lasted for 13 minutes and 38 seconds! According to the Guinness World Records, efforts have broken the previous record; all mattresses will be donated to charity. Information found on Kiwi Kids News.

Lucy came for a visit!
Lucy came over to our school for a visit on the 26th of May 2017. She tells us that at her new school everything is different, there are small classrooms. She came for a visit and for a friends sleepover. By the way if you didn't know who Lucy was she was an old friend of mine she was really nice and her oma Mrs VW is leaving in JUNE . Lucy's mum is Mrs Buchanan, the teacher in B1, but sadly she left. She likes how there's a big community here in Papatoetoe and she has a lot of friends here in this school. At their house there's a lot of space, she has 3 lovely chickens, her own bedroom and a personal deck. There are also lots of Fantails, Moreporks, Rosellas, Tui's and wood pigeons. There were two classrooms at her school but know there's three. Mrs Buchanan might teach in that third class and Alexis and Charlotte, Lucy's two little sisters might be in that class. She went there because a lot of her family is over there in the countryside too.

The playground upgrade!
The playground upgrade!
An interview with Mr Gilbert
Have you heard that we are getting new playground equipment at Papatoetoe East? The money from the gala will be used to fund it.
Mr Gilbert is not sure if we will upgrade the whole playground or just parts of it. Did you know that the senior playground hasn't been upgraded for over ten years? Can you believe it?
Mr Gilbert doesn't know how much money each structure will cost until the playground people come and take a look. He's hoping that the upgrade will be finished by the end of this year.
Mr Gilbert wanted something that all the students could get value from not just some of the students, that is why he chose the playground project.
The upgrading will start by the end of this term.We might even have a competition to design our new playground.

Welcome to Papatoetoe East School Mrs Prendergast.
All the students and staff members wish you the very best year here. We promise, we won't let you leave because the staff and children love having you here and we don't want to scare you away from here! It's nice to know that your last school was in Clevedon and before that Hamilton. I know that you do lots of art and gardening in your spare time. You could make a gardening team of your own, that would be entertaining for you and the kids that join. It would also make our school more sustainable, which is what we want. It's a good thing you know what you want to do if you weren't a teacher. you would run your own garden business, and even better it's your own gardening maintenance business so it's free. Bye!
