Aesop's Fables

Aesop was a slave that lived 2,500 years ago.The fables Aesop wrote usually had a moral or a lesson. Like in the "Lion and the Mouse", the moral is no matter how small you are, yo can still help others. In the "Tortoise and the Hare", the moral for the fable is slow and steady wins the race. But when Aesop told his fables he could sadly never write them down. But because of Aesop's fables his master let him free from being a slave. Aesop died later but everyone remembered his fables.

Halloween

Halloween is on the 31st of October. Long ago, people believed that the dead came back to life and this is how the idea of Halloween began. In the old days they called Halloween 'All Saints Day". Hallow means saint.

Do you know what trick-or-treat means? It means give me a treat or I will trick you and scare you. . . People dress up as scary things and we often get sweets on Halloween.

Recycling Paper

In every classroom there is a new, green, recycling bin. If you have any paper rubbish or you have drawn on the paper you can put it in the green recycling bin. You are not allowed to put food scraps in the green recycling bins. This paper goes into a big recycling bin at the back of D Block.
We have to be really careful about what we put inside those green recycling bins - only paper. Put your food scraps in the yellow bins for the animals and all other rubbish in the big dark green bins.
Help our school to recycle!

Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the lunar Islamic calendar. It's the sacred month because in this month the Holy Qu'ran was revealed to Prophet Muhammed. (Peace be upon him) In Ramadan Muslims all around the world fast which lasts 29-30 days. Everyday Muslims wake up before dawn to eat and break their fast at sunset. One has to abstain from food and drink, increased recitation of the Holy Qu'ran, have extended prayers and keep away from forbidden acts such as gossips, stealing, telling lies etc...

Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. It draws one closer to Allah (God) by the aiding in purification of the heart/soul and helps to improve ones character. During the month of Ramadan one is encouraged to do praiseworthy acts eg charity, kindness, generosity, patience and forgiveness. In 2012 Ramadan starts on the 20th of July and ends on the 18th of August. (all depends on the sighting of the new crescent moon) Every year Ramadan begins eleven days earlier than the previous year.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~Eid Ul-Fitr~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Eid ul-fitr is celebrated after completing the fasting month of Ramadan. Early in the morning the Muslims attend a large congregational prayer at the mosque or at centres/halls. The rest of the day is enjoyed by visiting families and friends. The best part is receiving money and gifts. Eid lasts 3 days.

Raksha Bandhan - Indian Festival

Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi Purnima is a Hindu and Sikh festival that celebrates the relationship between a brother and sister or a cousin. Hindus celebrate Raksha Bandhan like this; the sister ties a rakhi or Holy thread on the brother's wrist that symbolizes the love of a sister and the well-being of a brother.

Raksha Bandhan was celebrated by Lord Yama and his sister Lord Yamuna. Once upon a time Lord Yamuna tied a rakhi to Lord Yama and bestowed immortality. Yama was so moved by the tranquility of the occasion that he declared that whovever gets a rakhi tied from his sister and promised her protection, will be immortal. This celebration was celebrated by many Hindus and Sikhs in India and Nepal but nowadays, all the Indian brothers and sisters all around the world are celebrating it.

About 118 years ago Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee in 1894 and that was the beginning of the Modern Olympics. These games have a special symbol that is used in Olympia and at all other olympic games. Well it's a torch, This torch is lit on the grounds of Olympia, and will fly, sail, and be run across the world, held by our favourite celebrites, and eventually arrive at the heart of the new olympic staduim. Chosen Valley Camp

My brother Shohab went to Chosen Valley Camp in Term 1 this year. He did lots of activities but he really liked the trolleys best because it was great fun sliding down the hill. He said that the food was nice and one of the best things was tasting the dessert after dinner. When it rained they had to go to their cabins. It was important that he learnt how to make his bed properly and how to be clean, and not to be scared. I can't wait to go to Year 6 Camp.

Fairytale Day

Once upon a Friday we had to dress up as our fav fairytale character. We had tonnes of activites at the school and we called this "Royal Day Fairytale Day". We had so many elegant and freaky costumes like Faires, Trolls, Princesses, Princes, Pirates and many more dazzling costumes. If you wanted to make your day into a story and not just play on the playground you could write a fairytale story, guess Cindy's shoe size, guess how long Rapunzel's plait was, listen to stories, make crowns and test how well you knew fairytale characters. It was a great day to be in a fairytale and I hope your wishes came true!Shivaansh C6

Sagrada Familia - Barcelona

Famous architect 'GAUDI' designed this breathtaking church called Sagrada Familia. He died before the church was finished, but luckily he made a big model that others could use to finish the church. The Sagrada Familia is a mixture of gothic and Art Nouveau styles. Gaudi used lots of ideas from nature in his designs. He wasn't afraid to try new ideas.
I think it is the most beautiful church that I have ever seen. Inside it is so peaceful and spiritual - it really takes your breath away.
