Kyle Mewburn and Katz Cowley

Were you at the whole school assembly on Wednesday 24th of August? You should have been because Kyle Mewburn (author) and Katz Cowley (illustrator) came to our school! Kyle was a really funny joker.. He also read "Kiss Kiss Yuck Yuck" which he wrote and showed the pictures on the big screen tv. Katz showed us some techniques to draw characters. She also showed the school how "The Wonkey Donkey" pictures started, and how they were created. We were so lucky to meet a famous author and illustrator!!

Katz Cowley

The Secret of lllustrating!
Katz Cowley told us that there's a secret about drawing faces when you are an illustrator. She showed us by drawing some pictures on the whiteboard. Katz taught us how to make different faces by changing the mouth, eyes, ears, eyebrows, nose, hair etc. She drew happy faces, angry faces and funny faces! I enjoyed her telling us that when she goes to the movies she gets a piece of paper and a pencil, and lets her hand draw anything. Then she makes a face inside the scribbles. Katz Cowley is very talented and creative! She loves drawing characters from stories and bringing them to life. She has a degree in illustration too!

Kyle Mewburn

On Wednesday 24th August, Kyle Mewburn (famous NZ author!!!!) came to our school assembly! He told us that when he was young he sometimes got the cane for fighting. When he he left school his teacher gave him a book about a boy that was always bored. This book inspired him to be an author. He wrote a book for adults and sent it in to the publisher and they didn't like it. Then he wrote a book called 'The Hoppleplop'. It was published and he got a cheque for $1000. Next he wrote more and more books like 'Kiss Kiss Yuck Yuck' and 'Hill and Hole' and got lots more money and fame. He even won some awards.

That's Kyle Mewburn's life as an author. I thought he was funny too!
