Superheroes

There are many types of superheroes like Catwoman, Spidergirl, Batman, Superman, Ironman, Hulk and Thor. In many stories superheroes save people from kidnappers or money that has been stolen by a robber. Some like Thor are trying to achieve something like getting the mjolnir which is a hammer with magical powers. Every superhero has a power like Thor is strong and Ironman can make 3d holograms. Wonderwoman is also a hero. She is an expert in all forms of combat. She is master of the sword, axe, bow and arrow.Superheroes save people and fight villians.

Halloween

Hey everybody I am going to tell you all about Halloween. Halloween is the time when we dress up and go trick or treating. I hope you went trick or treating when it was Halloween. You get lots of sweets and candy. That's all for today I hope you had a happy Halloween.

Sun

The sun's Diameter is 1392000km. 109 Earth's can fit across it. The Romans Called it sol, which in English means sun. In ancient Greece, the sun was called Heloies. Our sun is not unique in the universe. It is a common Middle aged star which scientists have named Sol after the ancient Roman name. This is why our system is called the solar system. There are trillions of other stars in the universe just like it. Many of these stars have their own systems, their own planets, moons, asteroids and comets. The sun was born in a vast cloud of gas and dust around 5 billion years ago. These vast nebulae are the birth places of all stars. Over a period of many million of years, this gas and dust began to fall into a common centre under the force of it's own gravity.

Saraswati Puja

The beautiful goddess Saraswati is shown playing an instrument called a vina.

This Hindi festival celebrates the goddess Saraswati and the first day of spring. Saraswati is the goddess of learning.She is also the goddess of music, poetry, dance and drama.

People wear bright yellow clothes at this festival. Yellow stands for the warmth of spring.

In Bengal, people carry giant images of Saraswati around the streets. At the end of the day, they say good bye to the images by placing the picture in the river. Music is played for all to enjoy!

Interviewing Cuddles

We have a special person/animal in the library not Toby but his cousin Cuddles. He likes to read, play with kids and help Mrs Osbourne during the day. Today we are here to ask "Cuddles' a few questions about his life.

Q.What is your favourite book or series?
A.In the day I fancied the Geronimo Stilton series or a few quick reads.

A.Shelving books. Thats my fav. I remember all the Decimals

A.I like all my friends. I help them out everyday and have fun.

New Zealand post book awards

In week 4 we had a competition for voting for picture books in the New Zealand book awards. My favourite picture book is " Remember that November". Each class had to vote for a picture book. One of the picture books I also like is 'Melu'. The voting closed on June 24th of May. Alot of picture books are interesting and sometimes they are about feelings. The books in the competition have a post stamp that will tell us if it is a New Zealand post book and one of New Zealands's favourites. Some books have rhyming words such as care and share. The picture books are fiction, that means made up stories and you can use your imagination. Campbell Live host John Campbell has been appointed as Chief Jugde of the awards.
On Monday they announced the children's choice which is Melu and the winner of the picture book was Mister Whistler.

A little bit about Mrs Crisp

 

Mrs Crisp thinks that our school is very friendly because the children are kind to each other and they are always busy learning. She thinks it is challenging for her to get to know everyone, where things are and how we do things in this school. In her free time she likes to go for bush walks, read books and watch movies and eat ice-cream with her friends and family. She thinks our school is special because of the lovely children, the library, and how the kids use it. She would spend hours in the library. Her favourite book is Ten in the bed, her favourite sport is netball , she loves the colour green, her favourite author is Gwenda Turner and her favourite food is strawberries.

Planets, dwarf planets, asteroids, and comets move around the Sun. These objects and the Sun make up the solar system. Jupiter, Saturn,Uranus, and Neptune are large planets. They are made of gases. Earth, Mars, Mercury, Venus are smaller planets. They are rocky.

Australia

My Holidays, Awesome. Why? Because I had my birthday party, oh! Did I mention that I went to Australia? I didn't. Okay I'll set the scene! It was a Monday, waiting and waiting, watching and hearing every tick of the clock. Finally I reached the airport, every queue for every airline. Intercoms crackling for announcements, in fact I can mimic it today. Immigration lines were not that packed. So it was easy getting through in time. Boarding the plane and embarking into the sky. It wasn't the 4th of July, so we flew the sky. Getting to Kingsford took 3hrs and 40mins but was worth the wait. Hearing the crying of families reuniting made me feel alive. Suddenly it came, our ride awaited for me family. Next day we were tired and had to get up 8 sharpish so we could be in "CANBBERA". Went to Parliament marched in and starting taking pics. Went right to the Mint Factory. Turns out they make money in the Mint Factory we then went to the Telstra Tower-r-r. Came back to Sydney and met all the family. We had Ice-Cream Soda Spiders, I wasn't that frightnend. Sydney City is fabulous, waltzing down Pitt Street and going through an 8 story mall. Have you seen that before? I went abroad a boat and saw a Pacific Pearl heading to the Pacific that got me jealous...Bummer I just had to get back through all 23 stops. I aint fun at all. Came back to the House. I had a good blast with all my cousins here and a great feed. Back to old Auckland. I had a really good time across the ditch. It didn't stink. I wonder where I go next?

Butterfly competition.

On week 2 it was New Zealand Sign Language week. Some classes have started making butterflies to put on their wall to support the deaf people in our school. A butterfly is the symbol for deaf students,because many butterflies are deaf.The teachers who teach the deaf students in our school, have planned to have a butterfly art competition.You can sew, paint, draw, dye anything! Butterflies are beautiful and deaf. There will be special judges announcing the winner for year 1 to year 6.

Our school has a sports competition this term. Kids can play rugby  and soccer and netball. Every year they have a new sport competition. Sometimes kids play basketball and handball.

We had a great time with Food stalls, Stalls, Perfomances and Rides.

It was an amazing turn out.

There was even a fire truck where people could go to the top. Mrs Gounder did it as well.

WWE Undertakers manager dies!

Paul Bearer died on the date of 5th of March 2013. His face looked a little bit freaky. He was the WWE legend. He died of the at the age of 58. Some people think that Undertaker killed Paul Bearer and a lot don't. Paul Bearer was an American. The little gold bowl he carried around was to make people scared.

"I like monkeys" said Toma.

Monkeys are clever mammals that can solve problems and hold things in their hands.They live in groups called troops high in the tropical forests of America, Africa and Asia. Monkeys eat plants, birds, eggs, small animals and insects.

Birds live all over the world and there are nearly 10,000 species. They are the only animals to have feathers and wings but not all birds can fly. All birds lay eggs and most build nests where they can raise their chicks.

Gayle was the lady that showed us how to save peoples lives. Hope you guys learnt from it. Do you remember DRSABC? Our class D4 was laughing when we watched Mr Bean. Hope you guys don't do that!

Mega Easter Fun in the City

 

Forget about Greenlane, this year all the massive rides have moved to downtown oppisite of Victoria Park. As soon as you come near the event you will have butterflies in your stomach. Because the rides almost touch the sky! Scream Machine, Turbo Tower, you name it, it's all in the show!There's even rides for the little kiddies! For example, the Dodgem cars, Cup and saucer and the Ferris wheel are all for kids. Choo! Choo! Train Departing for Doomsville in 5 minutes, if you dare! Beware the Ghost Train will take you to the Haunted House. There are also competions of all sorts where everyone would get a prize. Maybe next year you might check it out!

Easter

 

In Jerusalem Easter is the most important and joyful festival for Christians. It falls in the season of spring, a time to celebrate new life . An important  celebration was taking place in Jerusalem when Jesus died and rose again from dead. This was the festival of Passover. It is celebrated by the followers of  Jewish  faith. So the first Christians added Easter to this ancient  festival.
Passover takes place in March or April. The time changes slightly each year. Churches are dark and silent on holy Saturday, the day after Good Friday. But towards late evening, they slowly light up, ready for joyful Easter Sunday. Churches stay empty and gloomy until night time.
In the churches of Europe, everything starts to light up at the stroke of midnight. A flame is passed from one person to another so that candles and lamps can be lit. The whole church glows. In Roman Catholic and some Anglican churches, a huge, bright candle is carried through the church. It shows how Jesus Christ, the light of world, rose from dead and drove away the darkness of evil. The candle is used to baptize Christians.
Baptism is a ceremony that makes people members of Christian church. The candle blesses the water for years.  Hundreds of years ago, many people became baptized at Easter with this water.

Pig and the Talking Poo

Pig has a huge brown plastic talking dog poo. He knows it dosen't talk really he's not bonkers or anything but he does miss his poo lots when he loses it mainly because it reminds him of his dad. So, helped by his best friend Raj, Pig tries to find his lost poo. Can they find it - or will Pig and Raj both die trying?
