New Zealand Flag Consideration Debate

Lately, as you may or may not know there has been an on going nation- wide discussion in New Zealand about the New Zealand Flag Consideration Project. This project started when some people decided that they wanted to consider changing our current flag. You're probably wondering how this will work , well, over the rest of the year and next year, there will be 2 referendums, the first one, which will be held in 2015 will be when NZ citizens vote for their favourite new flag design out of 4 designs that have been selected by a special flag consideration panel. The second one, (2016) will decide if NZ votes to keep the design they have pre-selected or keep our current flag. There is, however, controversy over this project as it is costing tax-payers 26 million dollars and quite a few people believe we could be doing something that is more of priority with the money like improving our health system or looking at child poverty. Take a look at the top 40 flags and see which one you like best.

    I think we shouldn't change our flag because this flag has been in New Zealand for many years.

    I think that changing the flag is a good idea but I don't think that we should spend millions of dollars to do it.

    I think that New Zealand should change its flag because it is to similar to Australia and we are no longer part of the Union Jack.

    We decided that we liked the 8th flag because it is representing the Union Jack and the Southern cross Stars.

    I want to change the new Zealand flag because it looks kind of like Australia and I get confused with Australia and new Zealand flags.

    I like the 15th flag because it has some black for the All Blacks. It also has a silver fern and the southern cross.
