Archaeologists Discover Endeavour

Cookendeavour

Famous archaeologists from America have discovered the last remains of the ship that Captain James Cook sailed as the first person to chart New Zealand in 1770. Researchers say that they may have come across the ship wreck of the HMS Endeavour off the coast of Rhode Island. The ship was last seen in 1778 when it was being used as a transport vessel during the American Revolution. It also had a new name - Lord Sandwich.

The Endeavour was a bark - a three masted sailing ship. The Rhode Island marine archaeology project RIMAP0 says the Endeavour was one of 13 ships sunk in Newport Harbour in1778. Archaeologist will now carry out further investigations of the vessels structure and it's related artifacts.
